Are you ready for a fun one?! Cause this project was fun and actually pretty quick and the upgrade is out of this world! I've been wanting to do this since we moved in. The movers really beat up our stairs and they are just kind of steep and slick. I could never decide what I wanted. Had decided to hire it out because I was a little overwhelmed and then one day I saw this runner and thought, this is it. Brian gave me a huge confident boost and two seconds later I'm borrowing an air compressor and staple gun and BAM... she's done!
The hardest part was picking a runner. Once that was done, it was super simple. I read a million posts about how to do this and didn't follow a single one. I didn't want to put sticky stuff down. I didn't want padding. I didn't even measure and I wish I would have now. I ordered three runners and ended up needing about 10% of a 4th. That was the biggest slow down!
I found the little nail things, I can't remember if I ordered for this project or just had them but they worked perfect. Orginally I just put some down and wasn't really sure how it was all going to come together. Again, really winged this once I got started.
I used some kind of little tool that pushes the rug to the corner, it actually didn't work great so I just used my hands. I would staple under the lip of the step and then in the crease. That's all. Mostly on the hem so you wouldn't see my staple or in the pattern so it would blend.
I ended up using the nails at the top to keep it secure. Did a horrible job spacing them but Brian thinks it's character. Good husband.
It's not centered but our stairs are off center. I don't really notice so oh well. And this is the hardest part! Cutting off the end and starting a new one. If you do it under the lip, it's the best. My one pointer. And ta-da! We love it! It's amazing how much it adds to the stairs. I was going to link my sources but I can't find the nails, which tells me they just came from my collection and then you can find the runners here: Runners.
