Christmas Gifts: Homemade Vanilla

27 March 2026

I was gifted one of these little vanilla's a few years ago and I've said ever since that I was going to make them. And finally this year, I did! I love that it's the gift that keeps giving. Once you run out, refill with vodka and keep going. I'm still using the original one gifted to me.

These were so simple to make. I wish I would have started early. The goal was to have them ready for Christmas but I didn't start until late October/early November and they really need to set for 2-4 months before ready to use.

I found the bottles and beans from Walmart. For some reason I thought I only needed one bean per bottle. Nope, you should use 6ish for this size bottle. I also thought I only needed 1-2 bottles of vodka. Also nope. You should have seen me walking out of the Costco liquor store at 10am on a weekday with 4 handles of vodka. But pro tip, they are $12.99 each!

The bottles came with a little funnel that came in super handy. I filled each bottle with vodka and then cut each vanilla bean down the center to open it on one side only.

Then let them sit. I would shake every few days. It was so fun to see them get darker and darker each day.

Then I made these fun little tags. Fought with my printer a lot. Still didn't get most centered but gave up. I still think they turned out pretty great.

XOXO :)
