This one just happened! We had ordered the ahi tuna salad from Zaza's a few nights prior, Emily (like Emily does) took it from our plates and killed the tuna! She asked to have it again. So I grabbed some ahi at the store and let her help me decide how we were going to cook it. We typed in ahi tuna in instagram and watched some videos...
Pan Seared Ahi Tuna
Ingredients
Marinade: 3T soy sauce, 1t sesame oil
Crust: 1/3C sesame seeds, 1T brown sugar, 1t garlic powder, 1t onion powder, and 1t salt
Directions
Step 1: Marinade. Combine the soy cause and sesame oil in a shallow dish and fully coat the tuna on all sides. Let the tuna sit at room temp for about 10 mins while preparing the crust.
Step 2: Crust. Combine the seeds, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and spread out evenly on a plate. Place the ahi tuna on the mixture and press them firmly to get the crust to stick. Coat both sides.
Step 3: Cook. Heat a skillet over medium heat and when it's hot, add a little neutral oil to the pain. Carefully add the ahi to the skillet. Cook undisturbed for 45-60 seconds until they get a nice seared crust. Flip and repeat the process on the other side and then remove.
Step 4: Serve. Slice the tuna and garnish with sliced green onion and smoked, flaky sea salt. We also had this from Trader Joe's Nori Komi Furikake.
It was delish! We'll def have this again! And it was so easy!! XOXO
