I love a good reason to make a handmade gift. I made a flip book for Brian on our 1st (paper) Anniversary called, "100 Reasons Why I Love You!" It was made from index cards and random photos and bound together with string. Wasn't my proudest project but the sentiment was the goal.
I knew I wanted to do something special for my boss' 50th birthday last year. She had set a goal at the beginning of the year to do "Fifty Firsts" during the year. She ended up exceeding and smashing her goal! Then a month before her big milestone day, she broke her ankle in two places while touring the Tower of London. She flew home BY HERSELF and had surgery a week later.
My boss is a rock star. She wears so many hats and means so much to so many people, I don't know how she does it all. She's been a friend and mentor. I honestly hit the boss jackpot.
So-- 5 days before her birthday.. I come up with this idea. Why don't I have people write reasons why she's so awesome and I can put them all together as a gift. I immediately go to pinterest and find this FREE download-- BAM! You can download it here. I didn't love the numbers so I ended up cutting them out in my final version.
My biggest hurdle was finding out ways to distribute to everyone she knows and loves and getting them back super fast. I had her Admin hack her email and steal her mom and dads cell phone numbers, her husbands-- who I called and put in charge of one son and her favorite aunts. Facebook was super helpful. I hacked her email once again to get her sons cell phone number. I'm sure he thought I was crazy.
I contacted people she worked with at the Governor's Office and didn't even try to hide my crazy. We ended up getting back SO many cards that we exceeded my goal of 50. I made the cover in publisher to look like the downloadable cards. If you need one of those, just shoot me an email.
The best part was getting a text from her that night. Once the hustle of her day settled, she went home, got in a bed and read through the book. I stole the picture from above from her facebook. It was such a fun, meaningful project to put together.
XOXO
