Trip to Asheville

20 May 2026

We took at trip to Asheville at the end of January to attend my cousins wedding. It snowed leading up to us flying out. We kept thinking it would melt. It didn't. We had to have my brother-in-law come pick us up and take us to the airport to get out of town. But we made it! And had zero travel issues the entire way there.

Up until now, we've only flown on direct flights with the girls. It's been super easy. But this trip we had to connect in Charlotte and then fly to Asheville. Was slightly worried but the girls did great. They are seasoned travelers at this point and thrive off of flying!

The worst part is just waiting to board! We actually were on the same flight as my mom, Clark and Alex. They got to the airport much earlier than us since Clark didn't have his Real ID. In case they had any issues.

What's a trip without taking our dolls?!

Leaving Little Rock and noticing that only one runway was open.

My buddy always. Refuses to let her sister sit with me.

We got lucky on the second flight and had three seats across so all the girls could sit together.

Kate fell in love with the cookie.

Made it to Asheville, got our rental (which we're sharing with mom, Clark and Alex) and didn't realize how much stuff we had until it wouldn't fit! The girls were less than thrilled since it was all basically piled on them.

We unloaded at our AirBnb, which was pretty awesome! Then went out to meet Jackson for lunch. Some people just can't hang, see below!

Up the next morning to explore and have brunch. I can't remember the name of this place but it had the Root vibes and was delish as well.

I really wanted to go antiquing so we stopped at the Antique Tobacco Barn, a recommendation from Jackson. It was amazing. I've never seen a place so large. But it was basically metal walls and not heat. It was freezing. I could hardly think. The girls made it about two minutes before they went to the car with Gma. We looked around but ultimately left with nothing.

We tried really hard!!

Stopped for coffee to warm up and played some fun little games.

Then went to the outlet mall. Clark wanted to hit up the Dillard's outlet. I was semi against it since we have one in Arkansas but glad we went. The girls found so many precious finds. And Brian got a nice suit.

Suddenly she looks 15.

The grown-ups ended up going out this night. Brian and I did some research on places to eat in Asheville and landed on Luminosa. I found it on the Michelin website and it didn't disappoint. It was fantastic. We ordered a little of everything and passed the plates around to try it all. Then went to the basement for after dinner drinks. The whole place was so cool-- the vibe was lovely.

We left with a little postcard of the building it's in, the Flat Iron Hotel, which was such a pretty building! I framed it and added to our collection.

The outlaws. Gosh it was so cold. Just looking at this picture reminds me how cold it was there!

Yes, I have kids. "Now take a silly picture!"

And this is where it ends for us. Yeah I know we came for a wedding but the whole artic hammer storm was coming and we were afriad we'd get stuck and we were on a mountain and all this stuff-- doesn't mix well for a highly weather adverse family already. So we hopped on a flight and came home. Little  Rock still had ice on the ground. But lucky for us, Clark and Alex left their car at the airport and for the next three days, we had 4WD!

Before we left, the kiddos checked out the hot tub with Brian. The mountains were so beautiful behind.

We were on hold FOREVER with the airline but finally switched flights. They routed us from Asheville to DC. The girls were so excited about "going to DC." Once we got to the airport, everything was delayed or canceled. The DC flight kept getting later and later. Funny enough, my boss was in DC so I text him and asked how it was going. He said the same, delays. I told him we would see him in a few hours. Then got nervous. Went to the ticket counter and asked if we could go anywhere that doesn't have snow on the ground or in the forecast. Somehow she switched us to connect in NYC and then home to LR.

The girls were ELATED!!! Now they have been to NYC twice you know? So they say. Even if it was just the airport once. At least you can see the city behind them. My mom gave them $20 each when she dropped us at the airport to buy something in DC. Since we didn't go to DC, we hit up FAO Schwartz in NYC! It's like we gave them a puppy.

They loved it! And we got home at a semi-reasonable time. I followed up with my boss, he got delayed and delayed and delayed. Think he made it home around midnight! Winning!

And Emmy went home with a build a bear (which she's been begging for), wearing a New York City t-shirt and colorful skirt. Could she be more happy? Shh, don't tell her it wasn't actually $20. Memories!!! :)
XOXO
