Can't believe I'm finally making this post. This is one of the very first projects we started when we moved in. We knew when we made the offer on our five-bedroom home that one would ultimately be a library. Two things we really wanted-- a library for Brian and a craft room for me. Done and DONE! This was so much fun and seriously still is. Even since I took the pictures things have changed. I'm constantly changing up art and adding new things on the walls.
Let's back up to where we started. This was the smallest of the three bedrooms downstairs. It felt like the best room for the library and basically a blank slate. This is the day the first set of bookcases started being installed. Got our precious little helpers down there.
...and then the rest.
Followed by the hardest part. We knew we wanted to paint it green... did you know how many shades of green there are?! I still don't know but I know there are a ton! We tried probably ten during this process. This was the first and we both agreed it was too green.
How fun does this look? Brian did it all :)
3rd or 4th round of samples. This is where we got super close to me.. I think we ended up picking the far left. Or maybe the far right. Either way, we went with Sherwin Williams Rookwood Blue Green. And I love it!
Uncle Steve had a fancy painter sprayer so Brian and him did all the painting-- in the backyard for the shelves and then inside the room for all the real magic! We originally decided to keep the ceiling white. then changed our mind about a year later. But no one wants to paint a ceiling so we hired that out :)
Still drying. Looks very light here but dried much deeper.
Girls back in their spots :)
One happy Brian. We played with the shelving configurations a lot.. and the lighting + lamps, rugs, etc. We originally had the desk here but have changed it all since.
We inherited this desk from my parents. We had it in our home growing up. It was actually the computer desk in our office. It's so pretty and the wood is so gorgeous. I'm so glad it found a new home in our house.
Unloading all the books was not easy. Had to put them in order by author, sectioned out-- fiction, nonfiction, history, religion, sports, you get the point.
I didn't think in a million years he will fill all the shelves. Figured it would take a while and a library to grow into. Especially since we lost a fair amount in the tornado. But then it happened... he filled them. Not in the picture below. We still had plenty of unpacking to do.
This is when the chair moved to the other side. I was sitting there one day and snapped this picture all cozy under my blanket.
FULL of books! We found some fun rugs to layer-- all Brian's idea. I was just the sourcer of the rugs. The large jute one we found at At Home, the traditional rug under the chair at Aladdin Rugs in North Little Rock, and then the vintage rug at Midtown Vintage Market in Little Rock.
You can see now how we came back and painted the ceiling. We actually went with the same color but at 50%. We also replaced the light fixture and put in the small fan. We looked for one with no light kit but never found anything we liked. This one ended up working perfect, the light kit is a little vintage looking with the white-- it almost looks milk glass? So we're ok with it. We added a little side table with a marble top and wood bottom, another reading light right by his chair and then art wherever we can. You'll also notice in this picture how the desk moved to the other side of the room. Which he prefers :)
We've added a couple more things on the wall since this. I'm also looking for fun, vintage-look brass door knob. Stay tuned.
Shots of the rugs. I added a plant. He's not great about watering and I forget so we're only doing one for now. We also added a little chair for me when I come to visit.
give me alll the mood lighting.
view from the desk.. it's a good one.
I love the warmth that the window coverings tie in. Back to the chair and some of the colors of the rugs.
Would you believe me if I said that my MIL found this chair at a garage sale a while back? She have it to Brian's brother and he didn't use it much so we either traded for this or worked out some kind of deal. It had some wear so we got some furniture polish and gave it a little glow up. It's my fav chair, we love it!
This corner to the left has changed a lot since this. Brian got a super cool print for Christmas and we had it framed. It looks amazing. I'm going to have to go snap a picture and put it at the end.
The print I mentioned is on the right side with the dark green mat. So cool!
And there you have it. One of the coolest libraries I know. Super happy with how it's turned out and excited to continue to see what we add, etc. Brian spends so much time in this room and I'm so happy he has a room he loves so much. XOXO
