Mid-week pinteresting :)

28 June 2012

Hello!! I figured I would share a quick mid-week update on my pinterest project :) I've also been working on some crafts that I didn't get from Pinterest & thought I would share those.. ENJOY!!

SOO, I went back and did a little re-vamp on a project I did in week 1. I wanted to make some cute decorations for the 4th so I made stars & stripes candle holders. I made my designs with stars stickers and for the stripe jars- I used painters tape and rubber bands to make cute patterns :) then I sprayed them with my etching spray and TA-DA!! Here are some before, during and after pics....

Day 19- DIY Work Out T-Shirt
Yes, there is a story as to why I used an old navy flag t :) Last year on the 4th of July I brought a flag t-shirt to the lake (Rachel and I bought them to cut the sleeves off and re-create our trashy Destin shirts) I ended up making Brian an awesome 4th of July outfit with my shirt and then made him some jorts to wear. So this year I bought us both a shirt so we could wear them together for our "anniversary." Anyway, this was super easy, the instructions are perfect if you want to make this. I'll have to post an after picture ofus wearing them together next week!

Day 20- DIY Marbled Glasses
I can not find the link of where I found this project from Pinterest but I posted the blog where I got the instructions. Maybe I didn't do it right but it didn't turn out like the pictures! Let's just say I'm using these to hold my paint brushes. The idea was cool but the finished product... not so much. You use nail polish and drop it in water-- when you drop the glass in the water it is realllly neat to see the pain cling to the glass.

Day 21- Refinishing Old Wood
Okay, so maybe this doesn't technically count as refinishing furniture but cut me a little slack :) I found this at Goodwill for $2!!! Brian has this huge knife that has no home so I was like okay, this would be cool for his apartment. It was realllly ugly... So i took a sander to it, used a little polish and got it looking pretty good. I'm thinking I might stain it? But really this picture doesn't look that great. It looks much more pretty in person!

OKAY, I saved the best for last!!! I saw this canvas on Riffraff and just knew I had to recreate my own!

What do you think?! It didn't turn out as good as I wanted but I don't think it's horrible! I'm working on my second one right now so I'm hoping it will look AMAZE!!! Anyway, hope everyone has a happy and safe weekend! I don't know that I will do much crafting over the next week.. maybe some cute 4th of July baking?! I'll update you soon :)

XOXO, ARH

Week 3

26 June 2012

I played major catch up this week and finished all 7 projects, plus one bonus!! I didn't do as many crafts this week, more cooking and I did have a couple complete busts. (It's a bit easier to cook when I'm traveling during the week) Anywho, here we go....

Day 11- Cinnamon & Sugar Pretzels
SO yum!! I love a mix of sweet and salty so theses were perfect! You just mix some oil with sugar and cinnamon, coat the pretzels and bake at 350 for like 30 mins! soooo simple!

Day 12- Sweet Chicken Wraps
This picture is awful!! But these were good! Again, so easy! They are meant to be appetizers but I made them in to a meal :) Chicken, wrap it with bacon and then in a separate bowl... mix some brown sugar and chili powder, sprinkle on top and bake as usual! You could also do these on a grill!

Day 13- Weight Watchers Edamame Fried Rice
I added shrimp to this one for a little something extra. It was pretty good. Make sure you use low sodium soy sauce unless you like salty! Other than that, it was good! You can use chicken, beef... really anything?!

Day 14- Removing shellac with acetone and tin foil (BUST)
I don't have a picture for this but lets just say I ended up with acetone all over my body and after all that my nails were still painted. Never again!!

Day 15- Homemade Teeth Whitener
I started this last week so I'll have to update you in a month or so how it's working! I feel like it did some good but the instructions say to keep doing until you see results. Not sure if I'm using the right tooth paste.. it didn't say what to use? I just used what I had :) Stay tuned....

Day 16- Nail Drying Trick (BUST)
Don't have a picture of this either... as it didn't work. The theory is.. you can paint your nails... submurge them in a sink full of cold water for 3 minutes, they will dry and all the excess you got on your skin will magically disappear. False. My nails looked like a messfest when I finished and then I had to spend 10 minutes removing the nasty nail polish. :( I was really hoping this was the miracle I was looking for!!

Day 17- Strawberry Sangria
White strawberry sangria - white wine, strawberry schnapps, fresh strawberries
I can't get my picture to upload so I'm using the one from Pinterest! This was pretty yum! I used some barefoot white wine, they were out of strawberry schnapps so I substituted strawberry pucker :) and then threw some cut strawberries in. It was pretty good but a little sweet. Next time I will def leave out the sugar!

Day 18- "Etched" Mug
Who loves Brian's new mug?! So pretty sweet!! I can't find any good razorback stickers so I had to improvise but I think it turned out pretty good! :) If I can just find more stickers (better ones) he will probably have a whole set! Perfect for football season!!

Sooo, what do you think about this weeks projects?! Lame? Okay? I'm working on some more exciting ones this week. I also have some crafts I want to do that I've kind of thought up from other projects on Pinterest so I might start substituting?!

Anyway, I'm over half way there! Until next week... XOXO!

Week 2 Wrap.... Sorta....

19 June 2012

This week I was unsuccessful in my attempt to do a project a day. I couldn't find the supplies that I needed and then I just got busy. I'm going to try to do better this week! :)

First I wanted to share a picture from this weekend. Every year we go to Lake DeGray for Father's day. We started this 7 years ago when we got a boat, except back then we camped. Thank goodness we have since upgraded and now we can stay in our cozy house. This picture was taken Saturday afternoon. I love DeGray.

OKAY, now on to the projects I DID finish.

Day 8- Drawer Pull Necklace Holder
OH-M-GEE!! I LOVE this project!! A few months back I made a different hanger for all my necklaces but I didn't really finish it and then I didn't like it SO when I saw this-- I knew I had to do it! It took a little more to make- drilling, finding wood, painting. the most difficult was picking out pulls I liked. I think it turned out great!

Day 9- Homemade Ice Cream (no ice cream machine)
SIMPLY AMAZING!!! This was sooo good and so rich and I am in love! I posted this pic on facebook and immediately had people asking me about it or texting me for the recipe :) Brian  and I love Breyers Oreo ice cream and we bought the one with oreos and sprinkles last time so I figured I would give it a try. I saw months ago where Lindsey tried this and loved it so I copied her idea. (Like I'm doing for this whole project :) Whipping cream, sweetened condensed milk, butter, vanilla, oreos, sprinkles and a freezer... it really is that simple!

Day 10- Fix broken make-up with rubbing alcohol
So this was easy and a lot cheaper than buying new make-up :) Seriously, all you have to do is drop some rubbing alcohol in to whatever make-up you have that's broken, rub it all together with your finger and let it sit. (BTW I read that the alcohol won't hurt you) By the next day I was ready to wear my blush again. It's not perfect but it works.

Sooo.. here's to 7 projects this week. Until then :)
XOXO

Week 1 Wrap Up :)

12 June 2012

So I successfully finished the first week of my Pinterest challenge. It was not easy and I'm not going to lie I might have finished like 4 projects last night but HEY, they got finished. I would def like to slow down and actually enjoy putting these projects together. I'm super excited about tonight's-- but you'll have to wait to find out about that one.

Day 2- Raised letters
I really liked the idea for this... I printed out the letters like the instructions show, taped wax paper to the top and traced them with my craft puff paint. I traced "and they lived happily ever after" but when the paint dried it was practically flat and so very difficult to peel off of the wax paper. I WAS going to use the raised letters to make a canvas, mod podge the letters to that canvas and then paint it off white for a wedding gift. Better luck next time :)

Day 3- Canvas for Baby Hayden
A few months ago my friend Whitney found this super cute canvas that she asked me to paint for her new baby Hayden. I LOVE it!! And i know when Hayden makes her appearance in July she will love it too :) By the way, this took FOREVER but so worth it!!

Day 4- Wine Cork
This didn't have instructions because come to find out, someone actually made it and it wasn't really a DIY project. But I had already bought the drawer pull so I made do. I couldn't find any drawer pulls to buy so I stole one out of my dads cork collection, stuck the wine opener in it to help with the hole and then pretty much forced the drawer pull into the cork.   I'll probably end up buying a new cork and redoing the whole project... but it sure is a fun way to spice up your wine bottle!

Day 5- Knock off Anthropology Metal Letters
LOVE how this project turned out! I made these for the kitchen at our lake house and I think they will look fabulous! It's really just as easy as buying the cardboard letters at hobby lobby ($2.49 each, I got mine half off) and a can of metal-like spray paint. Be careful when you take the price stickers off... I have a small blemish on my "E" because of these. After you spray, rough them up a bit with a sandpaper block and ta-da! SO cute!

Day 6- Mason Jar Luminary
This one was pretty neat, too! My mom has been telling me she wants some cute decorations for the lake house 4th of July celebration! So I saw this project and figured, perfect!! I got a large mason jar, covered it with star stickers and sprayed it with the etching spray paint I bought at Hobby Lobby. The original used just solid red spray paint but I thought it would be pretty neat to make it look frosted instead. I love the outcome! I think I'm going to make more for the 4th... but I'm going to use smaller, wide mouth mason jars. They are sure to be a hit :)
Day 7- Personalized Coffee Mug

I was a little skeptical when I saw this next one. Like did my parents really pay so much money when I was young for me to paint pottery?! This is really as easy as it seems... I just free handed Brian's initials (I don't drink coffee), stuck it in the oven for 25 minutes @ 300 and BAM! It probably could have cooked a little longer but I was tired. Just make sure you have something that is oven safe!

So that's a wrap for week 1! This has already been fun. I've been rearranging my pinterest boards trying to pick out my next projects :) I'll keep you updated on my progress!!

XOXO

Pinterest Food~

05 June 2012

Since I've already spent a lot of time in the kitchen making all things pinterest I wanted to share those with you! I don't have pictures of each that I made but I will share links to recipes for you. Enjoy! :)

Homemade Ranch
This ranch was fabulous and so easy to make!! All you need is some yogurt, milk and a pack of ranch dressing mix. Refrigerate for 30 mins and ta-da! Such a healthy version :)

Blackened Tilapia Baja Tacos Recipe
Blackened Tilapia Baja Tacos
Best recipe yet! I recommend for you to all make this! Your husband/boyfriend will LOVE you forever. Brian says this is quite possibly his favorite meal I have ever made and he's been asking for it again. The brown sugar mixed in with the other spices, I think, is what really makes this meal. The onion, sour cream mix to top the tacos is amaze, better than coleslaw on top! Please, whatever you do.. make this at some point.

Again, these are amazing! And while I ran out of propane making mine, they still were delish because of the marinate you put on them. Make sure you soak the sticks in water before grilling, no fires!
Pinned Image
Delish! I've tried both green beans and asparagus with this recipe. SO easy, cheap!

Pinned Image
YUM!!! So I was just back from actually going to Key West and this one stuck out at me. I made this at Erin's bachelorette party. Again, the grill might have run out of propane but I got some finished right before we ran out of gas. The rest I popped in the oven and cooked. They were still delicious. We decided to marinate the chicken overnight so it has a very good flavor to it. We also ran out of limes so it's possible there was a bid light lime substitute.

Pinned Image
Y'all... I LOVE chicken salad! This has got to be my favorite recipe. I have tried tons but this is the best. Chicken salad is my favorite when it's got celery, grapes and green onion. This has ALL! You can also substitute some yogurt to make it a little less calorie. Also made this at Erin's bachelorette... another crowd fav.

Pinned Image
Frozen Yogurt Bites
No recipe here.... just pick your fav kind of yogurt, put a small bit on some wax paper, freeze and there you go! A good snack when you are feeling hungry!

Pinned Image
This is soooo easy to make and it's the best poppy seed chicken I have ever had! This is Brians absolute favorite, I don't know that I can ever top it with another meal. It's quick and easy and you will love it. Just promise me that you'll make it, k?

Pinned Image
My family LOVED this! I made it for some Christmas meal. It was sooo easy.. everyone kept raving about it so I was trying to act like it was so hard and complicated.... but it wasn't. I think everyone left with the recipe that night. Very few ingredients, very good taste.

Pinned Image
SO good! Brian and I made this during the winter and it was so quick, so easy and very delicious!! Keep adding spices to your taste. You could even add shrimp if you want. You might have to look through some recipes to find this (the original was on a slideshow) It's recipe number 10 of 48. And the best part is... it's one dish! That's all you have to clean.

Pinned Image
My mom had made this for years! But I stole this recipe off Pinterest and tried it for myself a few months back... SO good!

Pinned Image
Just promise me you will make them. They are soooo good. And don't forget the marinara for dipping!

Pinned Image
Another you have to promise you will make. SO, so, sooooo good. Except I make mine without cheese (just like two) I know, unAmerican?

Pinned Image
This is great! I don't put near as many beans as the recipe calls for because I don't care for beans

Pinned Image
I didn't love these as much as I thought I would but they are still really good!! (I have made them twice now) Almost too much bell pepper. I might leave out the chopped up pepper that you stuff inside the large bell pepper.

Pinned Image
Roasted Veggies
You can pretty much mix whatever you want. I did red potatoes, regular potatoes, zucchini, red bell pepper, baby carrots and squash. Dust with parmesan for the last 10 mins in the oven. Bake at 350 for about 45 mins. YUM.

Dessert Time! I've made a few things from pinterest that have been complete flops (only in the dessert category.) Those things were- chocolate crinkle cooks, skinny monkey cookies, and some type of breakfast meal in a coffee mug. I tried the last one 4 times and it never worked soooo I'm thinking it was the recipe on all of these and not me :)

Pinned Image
These were sooo yum! I made a valentines version in February... they were the perfect mix of sweet and salty, my favorite! So easy to make. The hardest part is probably peeling the wrapping off of the kisses.

Pinned Image
Peanut Butter Brownies
I can't find the recipe for these at this time but you must search from them on Pinterest. They are probably one of the best desserts, EVER!!! Brian and I had just started dating and he mentioned he loved Holly's peanut butter pie or really anything peanut butter. I wasn't going to dare try to make anything like Holly's so I searched pinterest one night and found these. I tried baking them and they were amazing!! I never knew I like PB as much as I did in these. Heavenly!

Pinned Image
Another Brian favorite! And me too!! We didn't eat all of it so I took the rest home for my parents and they loved it too! It makes a very large portion so if it's possible you might want to half the ingredients and make in a smaller pan (if it's just for 2) Again, so easy!

Pinned Image
This was like melt in your mouth good. It was kind of hard to bake though.... you probably need to cook for longer than the directions tell you. It will be very soft in the middle but will get harder as time goes on. It is fab for those of you who like M&Ms.

OKAY, i saved the very best for last. I already mentioned Brian's love for Holly's peanut butter pie. SO, his birthday was coming up and I really didn't want to make a cake  so I searched Pinterest high and low-- read about 10 peanut butter pie recipes and finally picked the one below. He LOVED it!

Everyone loves this! And I get requests for this so I feel super special about it :)

So I think that about sums up my pinteresting food :) Please, try some of them! And if you have questions, ask me :)

xoxo, AH

Pinterest Challenge!

I have FINALLY decided to take on the pinterest challenge! I'm pretty excited about it? What is this challenge, you may be asking yourself? Well, I stole the idea from Lindsey Jarrett-- for a month she took on a new pin from pinterest. Whether it be a new meal, craft, anything.

I'm probably starting this at the worst time ever so I'm going to do 31 pins as I have time. I'm going to shoot for a month but I'm not going to kill myself to get it finished. So I give myself from yesterday (i started on the 4th of June) until July 15th. That's a fair amount of time, right? I've already taken on a lot of projects/recipes I've seen on pinterest. I'll try to make a post sometime soon to tell you about those.

OKAY... so here goes nothing.... I'll go ahead and tell you about my first project even though I don't have a picture of it.

#1- Avocado Egg Salad-- which might kind of be a cheat because I made it for the first time a few weeks ago for Erin's bachelorette party. It was such a crowd favorite that I was craving it last night for dinner. So delish.. here's the recipe. I recommend trying it at home, tonight!!
